Well I do know that sometimes inanimate objects simply pop into existence right after you walk by an area. But hey presto, a bear waiting for me by rear door! Must have been an Olympic sprinter. I mean I was standing on the bridge looking as far as I could see up and down, then got in a car, checked glovebox, then out again - about 10-15 seconds. Front and 90 degrees to either side but never behind. I have never been able to look behind the car while setting in it. Once the bears are dead, the map will be quite safe on stalker for about 14 or 20 days – enough time to explore and loot most maps. If you the map is new to you or you visit it the first time in the run, where the bear or the bears roam should be one of your primary concerns. The bridge in Milton is a good place to hunt because you will be safe in the cars after you shot the bear. If your health is good and you have the right weapon ready, hunt the bear down. If your health is below 50% (for beginners I would say 80%): Avoid. Once you now where the beast roams, you decide to avoid it or to hunt it.
Crouch a lot, and enter the car crouched, so you will exit the car crouched. You have to get your eyes on it, not assume it is safe because you didn't see it. First find the bear, before it finds you. If you did not now it before, you learned it the hard way. That is a place where there there is no need to lose much health to blizzards, There are so many places to shelter in Milton. Hatchets and knives are in abundance, my guess would be about 15 of either in each game, at least 1 on most maps.ĭid the bear kill you? In my experience the bear only kills you with the first attack if you lost too much health before or forgot to bring bandages (always carry at least 2 bandages) Ammunition is plenty for the revolver and the bow and still enough for the rifle if you you use it wisely. Revolvers are more rare, but most likely at least 2 in every game. In most runs, I find at least 1 rifle per map. There are lots of weapons and ammunition to find on stalker. So once you have decent clothing, a hatchet (or the hammer) and a distance weapon, wolves or not that big a thread anymore. (You usually won’t need to, you just can shoot them before the get to you or avoid them.) There is just so much loot on stalker. The beginning can be hard, but once you know your way around the maps, you can be so geared up after the first 7 or maybe10 days, that you can survive three wolf melees on a day or even more. And once you are at Cooking Lvl 5 in a run, things get so easy you have to chase achievements or other goals to not get bored. Stalker gets easy with more time invested you will see.
The custom mode I'm not keen on and would prefer to see a new standard level like Stalker, perhaps harder, but without the manic wolves and bears that hunt you down. I would play Voyager again but it is too easy. Like other games, if it wants you dead it will pull out all the tricks to ensure you end up dead. So after three more blizzards in quick succession in which I barely managed to survive thanks to lots of coal and emergency stims, the game decided to place the the bear next to the car as I exited. Yet it suddenly materialised, probably because I had beaten the survival odds a couple of times when I was at death's door after numerous wolf attacks over 2 days. I was on a bridge with no danger in sight either end. I heard no sound, no warning, it was just suddenly there as soon as I exited the car. In this game bears can miraculously sneak up on you from 150 metres away in the time it takes you to open and close a car door. Like many other games, this one cheats - at least from Stalker upwards.
